Thermometer

The thermometer will show the real or relative temperature for a given crop (right click on a crop block to link it or any other block to unlink it).

Temperature display is shown in °F (or °C with the config option) when using WAILA and shows both the real-temp and the preferred-temp.

The "crop ideal" value will always be towards the middle (in the image at the right, the real-temp thermometer is showing the "ideal" icon texture) with too-warm being higher and redder and too-cold being lower and bluer.

Note: The simulation is natively in °MC where 0.1°MC ~= 10°F ~= -12°C.  The displayed values are only an approximation to real-world values.

Hydrometer

The hydrometer will show the real or relative humidity for a given crop block (right click on a crop block to link it or any other block to unlink it).

The humidity display is shown in inches (or centimeters with the config option) of rainfall per month when using WAILA and shows both the real-rainfall and preferred-rainfall.

The "crop ideal" value will always be towards the middle (in the image at the right, the real-rainfall rain meter is showing the "ideal" icon texture) with too-wet being higher and bluer and too-dry being lower and redder.

Note: The simulation is natively in MCU where 1MCU ~= 1" ~= 2.5cm, offset 1" (2.5cm) higher (so 1MCU will display as 2" or 5cm). The displayed values are only an approximation to real-world values; Philadelphia (a temperate forest region) receives an average of 3.5" of rain a month.

Comparator Redstone Signals[]

ThermometerItemFrame

When a Thermometer or Hydrometer are placed into an Item Frame, a Comparator behind the block will output a signal based on how hot/wet/cold/dry the current weather.  A signal strength of 9 will be close to "ideal" while other values will indicate increasingly poor conditions.  If a crop was linked, the crops' preferences are taken into account.

Changes to Biome Settings[]

The following changes were made in order to differentiate some vanilla biomes from others or to nudge them towards more realistic values.  The multipliers are an attempt to scale the 60°F or 0.8" precipitation swing between summer and winter towards the types of variation seen in the real world (larger values mean wilder swings).

For example, savannas are pretty much the same temperature year-round with a monsoon season (low temperature variation, high rainfall variation).  Oceans, on the other hand, experience smaller temperature changes, due to water's specific heat capacity.

Biome Type Temperature Offset (°MC) Temp Cycle Multiplier Rainfall Offset (MCU) Rain Cycle Multiplier
Nether +1.0 1 -2.0 0.25
End -0.5 1.5 -2.5 1
Sandy if > 1.5f, -0.8 0.4 -0.3 2.5
Savanna -0.1 0.4 +0.1 4
Swamp +0.1 0.667 +0.3 0.5
Lush 0 0.667 0 0.5
Jungle 0 0.667 0 0.5
Cold if ≥ 0.3, -0.3, else -0.1 0.5 0 1
Ocean 0 0.667 0 1
River 0 0.667 0 1
Beach -0.3 0.667 0 1
All Others -0.2 1 0 1
Magical [note 1] +0.1 / -0.1 [note 2] ÷5 0 ÷5
  1. Stacks with other modifiers.
  2. Nudges the value back towards the biome's original value.
